TISSOT, Jacques Joseph
(1836-1902):

Querelle d’amoureux
(Lovers’ Quarrel)

Etching and drypoint, 1876.

Wentworth 18. Signed in pencil and with the artist’s red stamp signifying one of the finest impressions (Lugt 1545). Edition 50

A superb, nuanced impression on a full sheet with wide margins. The faintest light-burn, otherwise in excellent condition.
308 x 182mm.
$11,000

This small drama takes place at the colonnaded pond in Tissot’s own garden in St. John’s Wood, London. It is the first of his etchings to directly relate to one of his oils.
