DELCOURT, Maurice
(1877-1916):

Place St-Georges

Colour woodcut printed from at least four blocks, 1899. I.F.F. 5, one of four trial proofs on japan, annotated “Epreuve d’essai sur japon ancien” in pencil, and bearing the stamp of L’estampe nouvelle. The subsequent published edition was 45.

A very good impression with wide margins. The old sheet of japan with stitch-holes at two edges, a couple of printed numbers, a centre fold, a little dust-marking, otherwise in good condition. 325 x 194mm.
$2,800

Delcourt contributed to some of the best satirical reviews of the day, as well as to major print portfolios. Two of the figures in the Montmartre scene are his mother and his sister, also found in “La Rue des Saules”.
