CROME, John (1768-1821):

Sandy Road through Woodland

Etching, 1813. Theobald 2, second state of three, a rare lifetime proof before the shading on the white spot of the dog’s head and further hatching on the plant in the right foreground. Printed on soft wove paper, prior to the first edition of 60 imps. on chine collé pulled by Mrs. Crome in 1834.
A fine impression with margins all round. Apart from a couple of finger-prints and short creases in these, in very good condition. 374 x 274mm.

Theobald states that “The etchings in their finer states are so rare as to be almost unknown.”
